Mail Scam Alert

The Treasurer’s Office has received reports of property owners receiving official-looking documents through the mail asking for payment on delinquent taxes. Upon calling the 1-800 number given, victims will be asked for credit card or banking information to make payments over the phone. An example of a recent mailing can be found here. The areas highlighted in yellow indicate where this letter looks suspicious.

The Maricopa County Treasurer’s Office does not accept payment information over the phone. If you receive a phone call requesting payment or questionable mail, you should contact the Maricopa Treasurer’s Office at (602) 506-8511 immediately. To view the status of your parcel or to make a secure payment, please visit our website at http://treasurer.maricopa.gov to sign in or create a ParcelWatch account.

Texting Scam Alert

The Treasurer’s Office has received multiple reports from Maricopa County taxpayers indicating they have received a TXT message on their cell phones warning them that their property will go into foreclosure if they fail to pay their property taxes. Apparently the TXT implies that it was sent by the Treasurer’s Office.

Please be aware that the Treasurer’s Office does not send TXT messages to taxpayers and does not maintain taxpayer phone numbers. This appears to be a classic case of “phishing” where the senders are hoping to acquire your personal information if you were to respond. In addition, there are also reports that letters may have been received communicating a similar message. Please note letters such as this were not sent by the Treasurer’s Office.

Phone Scam Alert

The Treasurer’s Office has received reports from Maricopa County taxpayers indicating that they received a phone call from an individual advising that their property taxes were delinquent and offering to take their credit card information over the phone to make a tax payment on their behalf.

Please be aware that any such phone call is fraudulent. If you receive a phone call like this, please just hang up. The Maricopa County Treasurer’s Office will never make phone calls such as this and will not take credit card information over the phone.
